Application Tips & Info
Introduction to Paint Protection Film (PPF)
Paint protection film is a transparent polyurethane film that adheres to the painted surface of vulnerable areas on your vehicle. It can be removed without any damage to your paint and does not affect the appearance or aerodynamics. It’s not visible from just a few feet away and with minimal maintenance the film will last many years keeping your paint protected while looking great.
Types of PPF
PPF can be made of different materials. Typical finishes include Glossy, Matte, and Self-Healing films.
Application Process
1. Cut the Film: You might have a pre-cut kit or film that will require some extra customization on your end.
2. Wet Application: Use a spray solution to position the film on your vehicle.
3. Positioning/Alignment: Ensure the film is correctly placed on the surface.
4. Squeegee: Remove the bubbles with a squeegee to ensure a smooth finish.
5. Trim Excess Film: Carefully cut around the endges and contours.
Tools and Meterials Needed
You’ll need a squeegee, spray bottle, and knife. Check out our Tools & Accessories!
You’ll also need Slip and Tack Solutions. Learn more about those in a video below.
Preparation
Thoroughly wash and decontaminate the surface of your vehicle. Make sure to check the surface for existing damage that might need repaired before application.
Post-Application Care
Wash and wax as you normally would with mild soap and water as early as 24-hours after the film installation. Use waxes that do not contain dyes, abrasive polishes, and/or rubbing compounds. 3M recommends 3M Performance Finish when waxing your car. Other waxes we recommend are Maguires NXT and Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Coating spray (our current favorite). After waxing your car, you can remove any wax build-up along the film edges with a lint-free cloth.
